Do you plan as if your life depends on it? What if your life did depend on it, how well would you plan? A 2014 study ("Prevention of Scuba Diving Mishaps Using a Pre-dive Checklist: A Cluster Randomized Trial") utilized control and intervention groups to explore incidence of diving mishaps in recreational scuba divers. 1,043 divers completed 2,041 dives at 4 locations. The intervention group had 617 divers who dove for 40 days and the control group had 426 divers who dove for 30 days. All intervention group divers received an industry standard pre-dive checklist. In the control group, 70% of divers chose to make their own pre-dive checklist and the rest refused to use a checklist.
